One of the great joys in my career is being able, at times, to give voice to projects working to limited budgets but simultaneously more deserving of volume than so many others!
One such example is Soldiers Arts Academy. I was introduced via my longtime friend and collaborator Jonny Guy-Lewis. His play Soldier On was to be performed by veterans, all part of this wonderful organisation founded by the creative and entrepreneurial Amanda Faber. This story of a play within a play, started its journey at The Playground Theatre. A glowing full page review secured in The Sunday Times as well as coverage on BBC Radio Four’s Today Programme secured interest from Lord Lloyd Webber. This in turn led to a season at The Other Palace and from there a tour which took in Canada, New York and also Invictus Games Trials in Sheffield.
A joy to have helped make this happen. Soldier On and the resulting coverage proved just how helpful the mainstream media still is… Soldier Arts Academy continues to support the work and creativity of veterans. More recently the company brought to life Sir Michael Morpurgo’s Little Manfred, a world premier. The stories of company members, fascinating and humbling, made for engaging coverage across a multitude of platforms.
